5 Moments that Tell the True Tale of a Girl Gamer Gone West
1999 - Quake, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Napster and Kazaa
Dressed for success in front of my Neopets shop, selling paintbrushes and faeries for neopoints. During this time I went on a lot of trips with my dad, up to the cottage as often as possible even during the winter months. My dad has always been into the latest technology and got our household online asap, but I also loved the outdoors and reading books in the forest near the lake in Muskoka.
2008 - Final Fantasy XI, The Name of the Wind, Ventrillo and The Pirate Bay
Developed friendships with people from all over the world, of all types and backgrounds. The internet was slightly less obsessed with social media. This is where I watched Obama campaign on Hope, and watched Bush step onto a helicopter leaving the White House. I also ate a lot of Pizza Pizza (Bacon, Pineapple, New York Style Pepperoni) and played Final Fantasy XI, where I was active in end game as a 75WHM/37SMN.
2013 - Kim Moes award for writing, June Jeffries Scholarship, reading Plato, listening to Tool and streaming on Grooveshark.
Testing the audio / video set up in my dorm room before participating in an online conference. Spent more time off the computer during these years than on. I used my laptop for writing and otherwise explored Vancouver Island while reading, writing and studying hard.
2016 - Streaming on Twitch.tv, Discord app, Customer Service Excellence as a Funeral Attendant in Van City
My partner and I lived in the Demoviction Zone in Vancouver. During this time, I started to reflect that creativity and entrepreneurship are similar. Spent the balance of my free time writing, making art, crafting my lifestyle in as healthy a way as possible. Discovered Yoga and lifting weights. My work at the funeral home, meeting so many incredible people, left me feeling awed and fulfilled. Being eternally grateful, meeting my partner.
2017 - Developing LitRx, Writing desk set up, but the future is yet unwritten...
My business and writing-only desk. This is where I would be helping Shopify clients succeed! And perhaps succeed as an entrepreneur myself. I've been brainstorming ways to put the pieces together for the online bookstore, but I suspect I'll need to take that Khan Academy economics course I've been looking at. No big deal, I love to learn, and having an idea for a business must make studying that material a lot more palatable. I can't wait to get started.
